blok in unexpected wayz

Published Jan 14, 2025

hi

here’s a humbling truth we’ve recently learned:

when we ship out a blok into the world, we have no idea how the customer will use it.

we initially assumed people would use the product in the same ways the team uses it, but it turns out that’s very naive thinking.

(forgive us, we’re dummies still trying to figure it out lol.)

don’t get me wrong — most blokers do use blok in ways we expected, like for work, school, exercise and to unwind.

but as we talked to some of you, we learned there was more to blok than we initially thought.

here are 3 interesting ways people are using blok today:

1. to always be blok’d.

most people unblok when they want to focus or unwind.

but, we’ve learned that some people use it in exactly the opposite way: whenever they want to check social media, they unblok. then when they're done they blok again. genius.

2. as a substitute to deleting apps.

you’ve probably been there: get tired of using an app → delete it → want it again → re-install it → repeat.

now, there’s some of you that were smart enough to realize that if you blok the unwanted apps forever, you remove the temptation to download them ever again.

"i blok'd and never went back", said one of those users. lfg.

3. to create a sacred space.

about a month ago, an artist bought a mini blok and sent this email:

this was a one-off but certainly the most unexpected (and heart-warming) use-case of them all. wild.

understanding how blok is being used, whether in expected ways or not, help guide the direction we as a team should go.

for example, now it’s clear that we should add more features and controls for those that live in a forever blok’d state and that we should double-down on enabling spaces to leverage blok.

is there a particular way we you use blok?

hit “reply” and tell us your story.

as you can see, even one sentence goes a long way :D.

bye! — dani

p.s. here’s that artist’s website, check it out his work it's incredible.
